*Disclaimer: My English isn’t free of mistakes, but I want as many people as possible to understand what I am writing about and reach them
Today I want to show you some ideas for organizers which you can create by yourself. I reckon, you have the necessary material at home which you maybe regularly dispose. If you want to decorate or individualize the organizer, you will also need some stuff you like – glitter or pompoms for example. The majority of the organizers are primary for organizing drawers, but few ideas are also for cupboards or something like that.
1st Idea: Handkerchief Box
I often use a handkerchief box for organizing my stuff. I mostly cut off the top of the box, so it is easier to put the stuff in and take it off the box. Before cutting off the box’s top, you can put some tape around the edges, so the box won’t collapse. You can also put tape on the inside of the box in the edges, but you can’t do it until the box is without its top side. If the box had a nice design, you can take it immediately. Unless, you can design the outsides with colourful paper, acrylic painting or washitape.
2nd Idea: Glasses
By eating or drinking some food or drinks in glasses, you probably normally waste the glas after it, but you can also reuse it, if you haven’t did it until now. Especially leaky glasses, which you can’t use for doing self-made jam or something like that, are great for this use. Before using it, I remove the lable, so I have the clear glass. Then I sometimes paint it with acrylic motives, with only one colour or golden/silver/… spray. I also tried to decorate it with glitter glue – that looked nice, too. I also searched on Pinterest. There I have seen glasses decorated with glass pens, wool, napkin/handkerchief, nail polish or with transfer paper. A new trend, which I have seen on YouTube, is fake ceramic, which consist of acrylic paint and soda pouder. Generally, glasses are extremely diverse.
3rd Idea: (Ice Cream) Plastic Boxes
I like eating ice cream – particularly in 250 ml boxes. These boxes are great organizers for drawers and they are easily to decorate with acrylic paintings etc. Those boxes can also be used for cupboard etc. in which you can store the boxes on top of each other.
4th Idea: Create Cardboard Boxes
You can also create own boxes in the sizes you want, so you don’t have to search for a suitable one. There are descriptions on Pinterest as well as on YouTube. I created someones for my little stationary stuff like erasers or paper-clips for example.
5th Idea: other types of packaging
But why not use other packaging for organizers? Cardboard boxes, boxes of games, packaging of pens, unused bags, packaging pf cosmetic products, packaging of stationary stuff, old gift boxes, etc. All these packaging you normally get rid of can mostly be used as organizers. If the stuff isn’t beautiful in your eyes, you can decorate it.
6th Idea: Ask Your Family for Organizers
If you don’t find something suitable for your stuff, which you want to store organized, you can ask your family if there are organizers they don’t use anymore. Especially my grand-aunts and grand-uncles had many organizers which I use in my room now.
7th Idea: Selfmade Wood Organizers
There is also the possibility to create a wooden organizer by yourself. I created a organizer for my jewellery for instance. Maybe if you can handle it, you can also use other material like metal or so.
8th Idea: Jumble Sale, Second-Hand Shops, …
If you haven’t found or created suitable organizers, you can look for it in second-hand shops, jumble sales, online shops like willhaben/ebay/.. or something like that.
All these ideas have two important advantages. Firstly, you don’t mostly spend money to get it, and secondly, they are more eco-friendly than buying new organizers.
Some tips at the end: If you use acrylic paint, you will maybe need more levels/layers. You can also get inspired on the internet on various platforms and internet websites – Instragram, YouTube, Pinterest, etc. In general, I like getting inspired on Pinterest 🙂 So maybe it’s also something for you.
Have a nice day
Amara
